Abstract
This presentation is an exploration of a
client-therapist relationship and the story of their experiences in the context
of psychotherapy. Through the case of a female victim of domestic violence –
who repeatedly chose violent men as partners - it is an investigation into how,
using Personal Construct Psychology, the therapist understands his client and
how this understanding channels new experiments in the psychotherapy room and
in the life of the client. It also explores how these new experiences
contribute to changing the client’s identity constructs, helping her to change
from the role of ‘victim’ to taking her own life back.
Keywords: sociality, role, psychotherapy,
experience, domestic violence.
