Most of the
material
presented on this web site is provided in html code, the type
of files
normally used on the Internet (like this one). We definitely recommend
to use the latest version
of
your browser because older versions often do not display some data
correctly, especially tables or images. All of them can be downloaded
free:
However,
some
documents use other kinds of files that require special tools to
decipher.
Text files often use
the .doc
extension, familiar from
documents written in MS-Word, sometimes they are .rtf (Rich Text
Format) files than
can be read by MS-Word.
Audio and video files (e. g. .mp3, .wmv, .wav files) require
special
programmes that are available for free from the originators' web sites:
e.g.,
Portable Document Files
(.pdf) have the
advantage that they
cannot be distorted by different rendering devices but they require the
- free downloadable - Adobe Acrobat Reader. They are mostly converted
from text or image files. (To convert
a text
file, e. g.
written in Word, into a PDF file, a PDF
maker
programme - Adobe or other - is needed which is normally not
free).
PowerPoint files (.ppt) require a -
free - PowerPoint
viewer (downloadable from Microsoft). It is part of some MS-Office
packages. (To create
a .ppt
file, again a
commercial programme is required, contained in some MS-Office packages).
