SPSS
SPSS stands for Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. First released in 1970 it was one of the earliest ‘comprehensive’ statistical packages. From the late 1980’s it contained a number of procedures that could be used to analyse or represent repertory grid data. Like other comprehensive packages such as SYSTAT or SAS, there are kinds of analyses with multiple grid data that cannot be undertaken otherwise (for example individual differences unfolding – see for example Marsh and Stanley, 1995). Grid users need add-on options such as ‘categories’ which makes it expensive for individual users but those with institutional affiliations will often find it licensed there. A guide to using SPSS for grids (Bell, 1994) is available elsewhere on this site.
